Our Approach at The Limes

The H.E.S.L.E.Y. Integrated Model is our organisation-wide framework for providing specialist support and improving quality of life. The model supports consistency across specialist education, adult residential care and supported living, helping people experience continuity of understanding, support and outcomes over time.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is central to our approach. It is values driven, evidence-based and practical. Focusing on young people’s rights provides our ethical compass, guiding our approach to working with young people. We understand that behaviours that challenge often arise from the interactions between a young person’s needs, communication, sensory processing, emotional wellbeing and environment.

Through consultant-led clinical leadership and multidisciplinary working, we create capable environments that support stability,  safety, quality of life and meaningful progress. PBS is a compassionate approach that helps young people experience a good quality of life while reducing the risk of behaviours that challenge.

At The Limes, our mission is to enhance the lives of the young people we support by focusing on their individual needs, strengths and aspirations. We aim to enable each young person to maximise their potential and progressively achieve more independence and a better quality of life; we guide young people to a place where they have greater choice and control in their lives. We seek to achieve  this through:

Learning

The young people we support at The Limes attend Mercury College, a service provided by Hesley Group. Person-centred plans are designed to suit the specific needs and aspirations of each young person.

Communication

Speech and Language Therapists develop an appropriate communication approach for each young person, which is then promoted by  the support teams. This approach helps young people increase their understanding of the many issues that affect their daily lives and guides them to take an active and meaningful part in decision making, as well as extending the depth and range of their  relationships.

Citizenship

Creating a safe, predictable and stimulating environment enables everybody to be as active as possible in their community. We help the young people we support at The Limes to live as citizens who are valued and meaningfully included within their own community.

Trust and relationships

We aim to develop trusting and valued individual relationships between the young people we support at The Limes, colleagues, family and friends.

Multidisciplinary approach

Our multidisciplinary model means that our starting point is not just what young people may need now, but also where they want to  be or could be in the future. A team of experienced care and health professionals work together to support each young person.

Keeping people safe

We aim to support young people to develop increasing levels of independence and take risks in a safe and well-supported environment. Our philosophy is one of warmth, security, consistency, understanding and trust. Our safeguarding arrangements are integrated into this philosophy; policies, procedures, colleague training and quality assurance provide a robust and regularly reviewed framework to support the young person’s wellbeing.

Health and safety

We are committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all those who live, work in, or otherwise visit our services. The Limes adheres to all procedures in place under the Health and Safety Policy of Hesley Group and wider legislation and regulations.
