Learning & Living whilst at Mercury College

Tailored education with residential and supported living for young people aged 18 to 25 with learning disabilities and intensive specialist support needs.

The College’s principal aim is to enable young people to develop independence through learning in educational and community environments that offer warmth, security and consistency.

Learning

Our person-centred curriculum supports communication, health and emotional wellbeing, community engagement, vocational  learning, employment skills, independence and citizenship.

Education is delivered through The H.E.S.L.E.Y. Integrated Model. Positive Behaviour Support sits at the centre of this approach, supported by consultant-led clinical leadership, multidisciplinary input and outcomes aligned to EHCPs, Preparation for Adulthood and quality of life.

At Mercury College, Preparation for Adulthood is embedded throughout the curriculum rather than being an additional pathway. Education is shaped by communication, sensory, emotional wellbeing and learning needs. Communication, participation and independence are developed across the curriculum and daily life.

Living

Mercury College takes full advantage of its location. The college works in partnership with its associated specialist residential and supported living services, encouraging students to develop transferable skills and independence across college, home and community environments.

• Specialist Residential Homes – The Limes and The Paddocks are residential transitions-led services for young people aged 18 to 25. The Limes sits next door to Mercury College, right in the heart of its community and The Paddocks in the rural village of Wadworth situated in a beautiful 14 acre site. Both homes offer specialist accommodation (solo and shared) and support to students engaged in Mercury College learning programmes.
• hcs Specialist Supported Living – offering a range of accommodation in partnership with social landlords enabling us to provide bespoke Supported Living to Mercury College students.

Colleagues at these services work closely and collaboratively with the education team at Mercury College to ensure students are learning and living their best lives.

The Limes, The Paddocks and Specialist Supported Living services are all registered with The Care Quality Commission (CQC) – inspection reports are available via CQC at www.cqc.org.uk
