Mercury College provides specialist further education for young people who often require a highly personalised, therapeutic approach to learning. The college works in partnership with its associated specialist residential and supported living services, encouraging students to develop transferable skills and independence across college, home and community environments.
Many of the young people we support are autistic and benefit from calm, structured and clinically informed environments that help them feel safe, access learning and make meaningful progress.
We support young people who may not thrive in mainstream or traditional specialist education settings and who need a calm, structured and clinically informed environment to engage, reduce the barriers to accessing education, progress and feel safe.
WHO WE SUPPORT – Young People with intensive specialist support needs
The young people supported at Mercury College often present with multiple, overlapping needs.
These may include:
- Behaviours that challenge and require specialist Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Sensory processing differences requiring carefully adapted learning environments
- A history of placement breakdowns or disrupted education
- Communication differences, including non-speaking communication and alternative communication methods
- High levels of anxiety or emotional wellbeing needs that impact learning and daily life
- A need for predictable routines, capable environments and consistent relationships

The college and its associated specialist residential homes and supported living service is based in the city of Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
Everything has been meticulously planned to provide environments that complement our students’ individual needs and inspires them to reach their full potential. Mercury College takes full advantage of its location. Our services seek to support our principal aim by providing specialist support and learning opportunities in college, the home and the wider community.
OUR IN-HOUSE CLINICAL TEAM – Embedded multidisciplinary support
A defining feature of Mercury College is our in-house multidisciplinary clinical team, embedded within everyday practice. Our clinical professionals work alongside colleagues in our education and support teams to ensure learning is safe, meaningful and sustainable.
Our team includes:
- Applied Psychologists, providing assessment, formulation and Positive Behaviour Support planning
- Speech and Language Therapy supports total communication, AAC, interaction, understanding and mealtime safety
- Occupational Therapy supports sensory regulation, environmental adaptation, functional participation, independence and access to learning
Clinical input is embedded into everyday routines through assessment, coaching, environmental adaptation and regular review. Our Consultant-Led clinical team is embedded within everyday practice and works alongside our education colleagues to support communication, sensory regulation, Positive Behaviour Support and access to learning.
