Andrew Mason
Chief People Officer (CPO)
Like many HR professionals before me, HR was never something I set out to do. After initially studying Sports Science at university and considering various different career avenues, I made a decision to undertake a Masters in Human Resource Management after being intrigued by the combination of studying business management, law and psychology it offered.
My early career involved a number of roles in HR and Recruitment teams all of which were working for charities, social enterprises and not for profit organisations. This has always been something that has been important to me, working for an business with purpose that supports vulnerable members of society or the communities we live in. I spent 10 years working at St Anne’s Community Services, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and drug and alcohol addiction. In this time I developed from being a member of their HR team to ultimately leading the wide People function and then becoming a member of the organisation’s senior management team in 2017.
I joined Hesley Group in July 2022 after being appointed the organisation’s first ever Director of People and Culture and I was excited about the challenge and the opportunity that the role presented, with the potential to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of the people we support by making Hesley an even greater place to work. For me great care is about great people and we have these in abundance at Hesley.
I’m a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and I also hold a Diploma in Leadership and Management. When I’m not working I’m kept busy by my little boy, Alfie, and my dog, Maisie, and I still try to stay active playing football and going to the gym…but often a Friday night is spent on the couch!
