Carly

My name is Carly and I came to The Hesley Group in 1999 when I was 14 years old with autism and struggled to cope with other people. The Hesley Group provides people like me with care, education and vocational activities in their schools and adult homes.

First of all I went to live at Fullerton House School and with their care and education I was able to move out to live in their community house in Thorne in 2004, where I now live with 5 other people like me.

I have learnt how to look after myself, prepare simple meals, control my behaviour (most of the time) and work with others, although I still need support from staff at Thorne when I am out in the community.

For the past year and a half I have been working at Inspirations the hairdressers on Wednesdays and I like to meet the customers and earn money to spend on music or in the café.

I go to the local gym twice a week and once a week to an aquafit class and really enjoy it. I go to Doncaster Women’s Centre once a week to do an assertiveness course, I have done two other courses with the centre and I hope that soon I will be able to do some voluntary work with them in the café or on reception.

I go to Hesley Village and College twice a week to work in the Beauty Salon and the Hairdressers. I like to be busy and meet the customers and earn money so I can buy a green cd player.

I have a very busy week and have to use public transport sometimes to get to all the different places, but I enjoy everything I do and I like to be busy doing different things during the day.
