Referrals and Admissions

Parents/carers are encouraged to make enquiries and then contact their placing authority to progress the referral. Referrals for placements can only be accepted by the placing authority that will be funding the placement.

STEP 1 - Referral

Referral papers from the placing authority are received by our Referral Co-ordinator and acknowledged in writing. These are then reviewed and discussed by senior managers from the appropriate establishments, during which time visits to the establishments for parents/carers and professionals are welcomed and encouraged.

STEP 2 - Assessment

The criteria for admission to our establishments are that a thorough needs assessment is carried out prior to admission to ascertain whether those needs can be met by us (for children this would include a Statement of Special Educational Needs). This Pre-Admission Assessment will cover the range of health and social needs set out in Department of Health guidance and additionally for children this will cover their educational needs. All information will be treated confidentially. The assessment is carried out by senior managers who will arrange to meet the individual and as many of the people involved in their care as possible. There is no charge for the pre-admission assessment. If the referrals team feel we can meet the person’s needs then a place is offered in writing to the placing authority.

STEP 3 - Contract

Upon confirmation that the offered place is required a formal contract is issued to the placing authority by the Hesley Group along with a Care Plan for the person concerned. For our schools & children's services the contract would be the National Association of Independent Schools and Non Maintained Special Schools (NASS) contract.

STEP 4 - Admission

On receipt of the signed contract the transition process begins and this will be managed by a senior manager of the placing establishment to ensure that the move is planned, managed and in the best interests of the individual. No person will be admitted to an establishment unless the placing authority has returned the signed contract.

After previously postponing due to bad weather, we finally managed to hold our Autism Awareness Athletics Event last Thursday (3rd May) at the Doncaster Athletics Club. A range of adapted activities including javelin, hurdles, the long jump and a penalty shoot out together with fun and engaging sensory activities ensured there were many smiling faces to be seen.
To coincide with World Autism Awareness Day last month we launched our official Hesley Group social media pages. The pages feature regular updates including service developments, autism facts, photos of our services and facilities, job opportunities and videos.
Hesley Group are once again proud to be headline sponsor for the Autism Show which takes place at the ExCel in London from 15-16 June 2012. The Autism Show is the national event for autism, dedicated to the two million people in the UK who live and work with autism on a daily basis.
